On a personal level, these objects are part of my memories as a boy: I have always seen them in use in my parents’ house. On a professional level, the “normality” of these household items has always struck me. They weren’t just “normally” in the sense of being in daily use in our home. They were examples of an era of consumer society that was soon destined to disappear: an era that I would call pre-design, preceding the phenomenon of designer design in the homes of all of us. Of course they too were in some way designed, that is, designed: by father (Carlo Alessi) or before that by the technicians of the mechanical workshop (the U.T.A. or Alessi Technical Office).
